Public Consultation on Proposal to Increase Dawlish College’s Capacity

Ivy Education Trust is consulting on a proposal to make a significant change to Dawlish College, in accordance with the Department for Education’s Making Significant Changes to an Academy (August 2025) guidance.

Summary of Proposal

  • School: Dawlish College
  • Trust: Ivy Education Trust
  • Current capacity: 750
  • Proposed capacity: 900
  • Effective from: The effective date will be dependant on the rebuild project. Further detail will be shared as the project matures.

Background and Rationale

Dawlish College was included in the DfE School Rebuilding Programme (SRP) following the closure of the Parker Block, which contained five classrooms (capacity 150) taken out of use for health and safety reasons. As a result, the school’s funding agreement was revised to a capacity 750. The forthcoming SRP rebuild will restore teaching capacity, providing modern, energy-efficient facilities designed to return the school capacity to accommodate up to 900 students. Ivy Education Trust believes reinstating the school capacity to 900 will:

  • Meet local demand for secondary school places;
  • Support continuity of education for pupils from local primary schools;
  • Improve curriculum breadth and specialist teaching provision;
  • Ensure long-term financial and educational sustainability.

Consultation Period

The consultation will run from 14th November 2025 to 5th December 2025.
